DRDIP-Ethiopia Delegates in Isingiro
The visiting DRDIP-Ethiopia delegates on Tuesday 25th in the company of their DRDIP Uganda counterparts-the PIST arrived in Isingiro, one of the South Western districts of Uganda where DRDIP Additional Funding (AF) is being implemented. The team paid a visit to the district headquarters where they received a cordial reception by both technical and political leaders of Isingiro District Local Government.

The district Vice Chairperson, Hon. Annet Kamama thanked DRDIP Uganda
for the various interventions within Isingiro. Meanwhile, the Deputy Resident
District Commissioner, Gedeon Tumiime, credited the NRM government for ensuring
a peaceful Country that has attracted exemplary refugee hosting.
The Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Aloysius Gumisiriza who is
also the DRDIP focal person for Isingiro shared the implementation status
updates - highlighting major achievements and impact created out of the
additional funding.
Speaking at the debrief meeting held inside the district Council hall,
DRDIP-Uganda Project Manager, Caro Brendah Lorika commended the District
Implementation Support Team(DIST) of Isingiro for their exemplary work, adding
that Isingiro district was chosen for the visit because of the numerous innovations
and good practices that can guide the visiting team from Ethiopia.
The Ethiopia delegation were keen on understanding among others; the formation
and capacity building for different community structures such as; Community
Procurement Management Committees, Community Interest Groups, the Self Help Groups
etc. The visitors were also tickled by the implementation mechanism for the
Village Revolving Fund approach.
Nakivale and Oruchinga are the two refugee settlements in Isingiro
district. Monica Kyokutamba who is the Settlement Commandant for Oruchinga said
the relationship between the refugees and the host communities in the district is
amiable. Kyokutamba attributed this to the tireless work of the district
technical staff who carry out numerous trainings on social safeguards and
mindset change under the DRDIP Uganda Chapter.
The team will visit a number of community investment sites within the district in the course ofthe week. Isingiro district is home to some 140,000 refugees from
different Countries. Nakivale settlement is also one of the oldest refugee
sites in the African Continent.
DRDIP-Ethiopia technical team are in Uganda for a six-day, IGAD
supported visit aimed at guiding the design of the DRDIP-Ethiopia successor
operation.
